Who Is Behind YenWise
YenWise is built and maintained by a small team of expats based in Japan. We are software engineers and finance enthusiasts who were once exactly where you are now — staring at a confusing withholding slip, unsure whether NISA or iDeCo made sense, and Googling Japanese tax terms late at night. We built these tools because we needed them ourselves, and we keep them free because we believe every expat in Japan deserves clear, accurate financial information regardless of language.
We are based in Japan and work on YenWise alongside our day jobs, so we are genuinely close to the problems the tools solve — when a tax form changes or a new NISA rule lands, we hear about it the same way you do. That proximity is why the calculations stay current. If you spot something that looks wrong, or if a tool would help with a decision you are facing right now, please reach out. Every email is read by a human, and the best improvements to YenWise have come directly from user messages.
